WaPo: Saudi Crown Prince Told Kushner & Bolton Khashoggi Was a Terrorist

The Muslim Brotherhood is classified by Saudi Arabia as a terrorist organization.

Saudi officials have acknowledged that Kashoggi was killed in the consulate on October 2, but say the assailants gave the remains to a third party.

The Saudis have presented shifting accounts around the death of the 59-year-old journalist, initially denying any knowledge before arguing that a group of rogue operators, many of whom belong to bin Salman's inner circle, were responsible.

The case has provoked global condemnation, but one month after Khashoggi was killed, the joint Turkish and Saudi probe has made little progress and many questions remain unanswered.

The source speaking to CNN didn't clarify the reasons and significance of the prince's return or if he had indeed sought assurances for his safety after spending two and a half months overseas.

Trump has condemned Khashoggi's killing in strong terms but has also defended USA arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which is the biggest foreign customer for American weaponry. "To claim otherwise would be ridiculous", the statement said.

Khashoggi disappeared after he entered the consulate on October 2 even as his fiancée Hatice Cengiz waited outside the building.

The claims came as Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, called on world leaders to "bring the perpetrators to justice", in an editorial for five newspapers, including the Guardian and the Washington Post.

He was a Washington Post contributor living in self-imposed exile in the United States since 2017, and had voiced some mild criticism of Saudi Arabia's powerful Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MbS).

"Though Riyadh has detained 18 suspects, it is deeply concerning that no action has been taken against the Saudi consul general, who lied through his teeth to the media and fled Turkey shortly afterward", Erdogan said.

Turkish officials have said they believe Khashoggi was tortured, killed and dismembered inside the consulate.

"There's a lot of people who would say this is the wrong time to go to Saudi Arabia and meet with the leadership there".

"It is now up to the worldwide community to bring the perpetrators to justice".

Cengiz lamented that without his body, Khashoggi's loved ones had been unable to hold funeral prayers.

The American right-wing Christian delegation, which included Mike Evans, founder of the Jerusalem Prayer Team, met with Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir, Saudi ambassador to the USA prince Khalid bin Salman and secretary-general of the Muslim World League Mohammed al-Issa.

While the two countries share a common goal when it comes to Iran, when Trump announced the USA embassy's relocation from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and the US' recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, it sparked outrage from Riyadh who views Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.

In an opinion piece in the Washington Post, Erdogan said that Saudi Arabia still has many questions to answer about the death of Khashoggi. "Turkey does not want to lose Saudi Arabia at the end of the day", Mahcupyan said.

But Sinan Ulgen, president of the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy, said "it remains to be seen whether Ankara can continue to leverage this conjuncture and turn it into a permanent advantage raising Turkey's regional influence to the detriment of Saudi Arabia". She termed the Trump administration "devoid of moral foundation".

The Saudi public prosecutor found last week, however, that Khashoggi's murder had been orchestrated in advance.
