How the Saints will make Dez Bryant a star again

The 30-year-old Bryant and the Saints agreed to contract terms on Wednesday, and it remains unclear to what extent Bryant will play when New Orleans visits Cincinnati on Sunday. Garrett was asked if he had been hoping Bryant would sign with a team that doesn't play the Cowboys this year and he repeated his first answer, which basically seemed like his way of ducking the question.

After months on the market, the free-agent wide receiver has signed a one-year contract with the Saints, NFL Media reported Wednesday, citing sources. I think for any new guy coming in, especially a skill player, it's new verbiage.

The Saints face the Cowboys in Week 13, giving Bryant a matchup against the team that drafted him with the No. 24 pick in 2010, and the only franchise he's played for until now.

Bryant, a first-team All-Pro selection in 2014 and three-time Pro Bowler, hasn't played football since being released by the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason, following a slip in production the past two seasons. In six game appearances, Meredith has just nine catches for 114 yards and zero touchdowns. "I don't know all the dynamics", Watson said. He signed his last Cowboys contract right after that, but has not approached that level of production since - a central reason Dallas released him in April.

Bryant was among several receivers to work out for the Saints on Tuesday. He had previously turned down offers from the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

The Saints have racked up the seventh-most passing yards per game this season with 289.9 and second-most most points at 34.9. At the same time, New Orleans is without deep threat Ted Ginn Jr., who is now on injured reserve and won't be eligible to return until the final few weeks of the season, if he's ready by then.

I'm guessing those in the Big Easy aren't going to like this.

For now, we'll have to wait to see how Bryant will be used in the Saints' stacked offense.

New Orleans knew it couldn't go deep in the playoffs without shoring up their defense backfield, hence the trade for Apple ahead of the deadline two weeks ago.
