US First Lady lands in Kenya for two-day visit

First lady Melania Trump on a safari at Nairobi National Park in Nairobi, Kenya, on today.

Her first African tour since her husband became president of the United States, Melania has taken her "Be Best" campaign to Africa.

She then took to the Nairobi National Park where she spotted rhino, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, zebra and other wildlife.

In Malawi, she greeted school children at Chipala Primary School. There she led a line of children singing to traditional music. She also read a story to the children and received a story reading in return. "I saw pix [SIC] of her earlier in the day with the colonial look going strong - white blouse and khaki trousers - but to add *that hat*... she may as well have worn an upturned middle finger on her forehead".

She had the opportunity to get up close to a baby elephant, and photographs show her smiling warmly at the animal.

The first lady spent time with a herd of elephants in the park and fed formula to two that are being raised at the park. She also read them a book.

The convoy of the US First Lady however passed by without any incident and Mrs Trump might have seen the protests.

A white woman on the roadside held up a handmade sign as the first lady's motorcade passed that said "Melania Me Too".

Mrs. Trump also stopped to visit an ivory burn site, where the material has been destroyed to discourage the ivory trade.

US President Donald Trump has tweeted that his wife Melania Trump "is doing really well in Africa".

Mrs. Trump's visit includes promoting the work of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the funding of which President Donald Trump has twice proposed slashing by almost a third.

After the elephant feeding, she added the pith helmet to her outfit, and social media began to light up. His administration has moved to lift a ban on some elephant trophy imports.

Egypt is the final stop on a four-nation tour of the continent to highlight child welfare, education and tourism and conservation.
