Upset of the Year: Ohio State Loss to Purdue Crushes Bettors’ Souls

Social media went insane in response to number two Ohio State getting upset by Purdue last Saturday 49-20.

Purdue upped their record to 4- 3 and will take on Michigan State this Saturday while Ohio State had their undefeated season end with Saturday night's loss as their record now stands at 7 -1.

The Boilermakers, who had lost its first three games of the season, were 12.5-point underdogs against the second-best team in the nation.

With Ohio State falling nine spots and out of the top 10, something that has rarely happened over the last decade has happened this week: MI is ranked higher than the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes have to find themselves and get ready for the tough last stretch of the season.

"We called them and said, 'What time are you guys doing your walk?" Gary was practicing last week, so another week off to rest could possibly bump him up to get back into the swing of things against Penn State too. Ohio State came up short of even half its scoring average. After the blowout, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said the team's weaknesses were exploited.

Boilermakers: "This win means a lot for this team because it shows everyone around the country that you can win football games at Purdue", Brohm said. Haskins finally hooked up with Johnnie Dixon III on a 32-yard TD pass to make it 28-13 and Terry McLaurin on a 34-yard TD pass to make it 35-20 with 4:40 to go, but Blough's TD pass to Moore and Bailey's interception return sealed it.

Ohio State's inability to score in the red zone has been a problem all year and it certainly was an issue against Purdue. It had only one rushing play that gained 10 yards or more and had so little faith in its running game that it passed the ball on fourth and goal at Purdue's 2-yard line late in the third quarter. He converted a fourth-and-2 from the Michigan State 41 early in the fourth, setting up Ben Mason's 5-yard run that gave the Wolverines a 21-7 lead. Haskins threw for 470 yards, on 73 attempts though. Until today, the Big Ten's best chance to get two teams in would have been MI winning out and winning the Big Ten. By winning Saturday at Michigan State, the Boilermakers could cement their status as a surprise conference contender heading into November when they host No. 18 Iowa and No. 20 Wisconsin with visits to Minnesota and rival Indiana. "We have to get something going".
