Recreational Marijuana Is Legal In Canada Today: Here Are The Rules

Canada has become largest country with a legal national marijuana marketplace as sales began early Wednesday in Newfoundland.

California, the largest legal market in the USA, earlier this month became the first state with a law mandating expungement of criminal convictions for marijuana-related offenses that no are longer illegal. Power says he hopes legalization will end the stigma around pot use.

Still, global businesses and investment funds have been hovering around the market for years, waiting for the time when they could legally invest in large-scale industrializing marijuana cultivation and distribution. Edibles (or cannabis-infused foods) will not be immediately available for purchase but will be within a year of the bill coming into force.

"I wanted to be the first one buying recreational cannabis in Montreal and I did it", Huge Senecal said.

What are your thoughts on weed legalization?

-Travelers can not transport marijuana in or out of Canada.

"It's been hectic", said Roseanne Dampier, who joined her husband - both former welders - in opening Alternative Greens, a licensed store in Edmonton, Alberta.

"For someone like me who has been smoking for as long as I have, it's about a tolerance". Some of them are specialty strains that are going to be quite popular.

The supply of recreational marijuana could be limited, at least early on, in some stores. As CNN notes, even if you happen to be headed to a location where marijuana is legal, like Colorado, it's a no-go.

Those plans changed when the Conservatives took power in Ontario and ditched the government-run outlets.

During a separate speech to the Ontario Provincial Police Association on Tuesday, Ford also said the federal Liberals passed a law to legalize recreational cannabis and left the provinces to clean up "the mess".

Cannabis NL expected 22 stores to open on October 17, but not all opted to open in the middle of the night to commemorate the event. Cannabis, like many other drugs, slows your reaction time and increases your chances of being in a collision. "But the key message is not how it works on the first day but that there is a first day".

"I'm going to enjoy it when I get home" he said. Even the little bit of ordering that I do right now I see that they're already getting busier. "The store has employed a number of employees with good paying jobs, obviously it's only one store of potentially maybe three in town".

Researchers in the U.S. also aren't easily able to study cannabis for medical purposes because the plant is federally illegal.

-Distributing or selling marijuana will still be an offense for minors.

"They won't know its potency", Blair said. "I think the sites that are truly not medicinal will feel the heavy hand of the law and will be cracked down on, the medicinal ones I'm not sure".

"I'm having a plaque made with the date and time and everything".

"When the law changes on the 17th, we're not going to see a big change overnight", Palmer said.
