Didn't win Mega Millions? Powerball jackpot up to $620M

Didn't win Mega Millions? Powerball jackpot up to $620M

It's a difference that likely means little to the lucky person who bought the ticket in SC and won Tuesday night's drawing, but it raises questions about how lottery officials make estimates and whether they were influenced by a desire to claim the jackpot amount surpassed all others. Those 36 tickets matched the five white balls, but did not match the Mega Ball.

It's not just a win for one or more ticket holders, but for SC as well, Cooper said.

The new amount makes the prize the second largest, just shy of the US$1.586 billion jackpot for a rival Powerball lottery in January 2016, which was shared between three winning tickets. The winning numbers were: 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 and 5 for the mega ball. The jackpot is the largest in Mega Millions history.

The jackpot had been rolling since a $768 million prize went off on July 24, won by a California office syndicate of 11 co-workers.

Media at left, recorded people entering the KC Mart in Simpsonville, S.C., today, after it was announced the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket was purchased at the store. That's okay. There's always the Powerball, scheduled to be drawn Wednesday night.

Leading up to Tuesday's drawing, the buzz surrounding the Mega Millions and Powerball drawings was high.

Powerball's current estimated $620 million prize refers to the annuity option paid over 29 years.

The prize is extraordinary by any measure, but particularly so for SC.

The victor doesn't stand much chance of staying anonymous if he or she is local, Curtis said. The cash option on the prize is $877.8 million.

Didn't win anything from this Mega Millions?

"I said, 'How does it feel to be a millionaire?'" he told Virginia Lottery officials.

But when the jackpot was finalised, it was downgraded to US$1.537 billion. Patel said he was unable to offer any clues. The victor has 180 days to collect the jackpot. Now I know y'all have it!' Chase Hatcher said, trading smiles across the counter with Jee and Twinkle Patel.
