Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 980 Launched; Coming To Mate 20 This October

Thus, the Kirin 980 will be far more powerful and efficient than Huawei's previous generation.

Huawei has doubled down on its AI processing aspirations, adding a dual NPU (neural processor unit) to the Kirin 980, which performs AI-assisted image recognition tasks at a rate of 4,500 images per minute this number though sound blanks but it is more than twice the Snapdragon 845 can pull and more than 3X what Apple's A11 can perform. Out of these eight cores, two are "super cores", two are "large cores", and, the remaining four are efficiency cores. The Huawei P20 starts at 649 EUR (Rs.53,600 approx.) for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, while the P20 Pro starts at 899 EUR (Rs.74,200 approx.) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Mali-G76 also features clock boosting technology that utilizes AI to intelligently identify gaming workloads and adjust resource allocation for optimal gaming performance.

The Kirin 980 also comes with improvements on the connectivity front.

Kirin 980 supports common AI frameworks such as Caffee, Tensorflow and Tensorflow Lite, and provides a suite of tools that simplify the difficulty of engineering on-device AI, allowing developers to easily tap into the leading processing power of the dual NPU. Also Huawei Kirin 980 compared with competing Snapdragon SoC 845, claiming the superiority of their own decisions on gaming performance by 22% reduced by 32% energy consumption.

The Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 980 is the company's latest flagship processor.

There's also fair bit of focus on improving the photography experience.

In addition, the new Kirin 980 will help in other areas such as camera performance, gaming, artificial intelligence, and more, all while providing Mate 20 users with a 20 percent performance improvement over last year's Kirin 970 in the Mate 10. Efficiency and power both packed together into 7nm chipset, Kirin 980 will be the Chinese OEM's next big thing.

Inspired by Nature At IFA 2018, HUAWEI also announced the launch of two new gradient variants for the HUAWEI P20 Series: Morpho Aurora and Pearl White, expanding its range of gradient colours to four. Additionally, the Kirin 980 supports carrier aggregation, even across frequency bands. When creating these two unique hues, Huawei once again turned to nature for inspiration.

Huawei's Mate 20, and its sub-brand Honor's Magic 2 are going to be making use of the Kirin 980 in retail devices by the end of the year, with the probable announcement date of the Mate 20 being October 16.

Huawei's products and services are available in more than 170 countries, and are used by a third of the world's population.

As the world's second largest supplier of smartphones, Huawei produces innovative parts for its devices.

All data and benchmark results are based on internal testing.
