Details emerge about Browns' decision to part ways with Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon's time with the Cleveland Browns is over.

"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday", general manager John Dorsey said in a statement.

Josh Gordon's rocky six-year experiment with the Cleveland Browns will end, as the team announced its plan to release or trade their star wide receiver. "Unfortunately, we've reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward". A report emerged from NFL.com shortly after the Browns' announcement that how he injured the hamstring after being healthy at practice on Friday played a part in the decision to release the receiver. "We wish Josh well". As many as five teams are researching possibly trading for him, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed. Gordon was upset about it, one of the sources said, surmising he was mad because he felt he had let down the team with the hamstring.

Gordon, who has dealt with substance abuse problems for most of his career, missed training camp as he sought mental health treatment but made his return ahead of the season opener.

Earlier Saturday, the Browns had downgraded Gordon from questionable to out for the Saints game, with a hamstring injury. He caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the Browns' season-opening 21-21 tie against the Steelers last weekend.

After leading the league in receiving yards and being named an all-pro in 2013, the league suspended him indefinitely during the 2014 season after his fourth violation of the NFL's drug policy.
