Amazon could launch as many as eight new devices later this month

People familiar with Amazon's inner workings, who spoke to the aforementioned source, claim that some of the upcoming devices will have Alexa built-in.

According to a CNBC report based on an internal document, Amazon is "doubling down" on Alexa and plans to release at least eight new voice-controlled hardware devices this year. But we can also expect an amplifier, a receiver, a subwoofer, and an in-car device, among others.

There's also a device to bring Alexa into your auto, though CNBC doesn't have much info on what that will look like. Audi, one of the popular automobile firms has recently took the wraps off its first ever electric vehicle that supports Amazon Alexa voice commands. Rumors of new products such as these indicate Amazon is looking to get a greater foothold in the smart home sphere, possibly spinning out the Alexa brand into a range of devices of its own.

These new devices may be powered by Alexa, company's own virtual assistant.

Earlier this year, Amazon acquired the smart doorbell maker Ring, which also makes devices that are compatible with Alexa. There are also products such as the Roav Viva from Anker, an Alexa device which plugs into the 12-volt socket and plays music through the car's Bluetooth-enabled speaker system. Higher-end models provide further flexibility to explore Amazon's offerings beyond Xbox, but as always, these come at a premium.

Amazon declined to comment to CNBC regarding the report. And costing just $50 for its latest revision, it's an unrivaled entry point for Amazon's digital future.

"We want customers to be able to use Alexa wherever they are", Bezos said in a statement in July. Garmin already partnered with Amazon to bring out an Alexa-enabled in-car speaker called the Garmin Speak, complete with a little OLED display for driving instructions. "There are now tens of thousands of developers across more than 150 countries building new devices using the Alexa Voice Service, and the number of Alexa-enabled devices has more than tripled in the past year".
