Urban Meyer Reportedly Ignored Ex-Assistant’s Domestic Violence History

Urban Meyer Reportedly Ignored Ex-Assistant’s Domestic Violence History

College football insider Brett McMurphy produced a report earlier that suggested Meyer knew about domestic abuse allegations against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith in 2015.

Meyer was set to meet with the media on Tuesday, August 7th but that will not take place with Meyer on leave.

McMurphy then pointed to a set of core values attached to the Ohio State football program.

Zach Smith's attorney, Bradley Koffel, released the following statement to ESPN regarding the matter: "Zach Smith wants to be as transparent and honest as possible but it is not going to be done today through the media".

Meyer's extension has a Title IX clause that requires him to report violations of Ohio State's sexual misconduct policy.

Ohio State Vice President and Athletic Director "Gene [Smith] and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion", Urban Meyer said. Courtney Smith said Shelley Meyer agreed to notify her husband, although she never confirmed if she did. Cleveland.com on Wednesday identified nine reports from Powell police involving domestic disputes between the couple from 2012 to 2018.

"Courtney: "I hope urban is smarter than that" Lindsey: "[Urban] doesn't know what to think" Courtney: "I don't really care.

"I got a text last night that something happened in 2015, and there was nothing", Meyer told reporters at the media event."I don't know who creates a story like that".

Courtney: "Restraining orders don't do anything in Ohio-I tried to get protection order which is what started this whole investigation". Zach Smith was a graduate assistant on Meyer's Florida staff in 2009.

Meyer did face some criticism in 2013 for allowing running back Carlos Hyde to return to the team after he was charged with striking a woman in a bar.

" 'I hung up out of fear because I was scared Zach would lose his job, ' Courtney said".

Smith was sacked July 23 after an OH court granted Courtney Smith a domestic violence protective order.

"[De Fries] said 'if you don't drop the charges, Zach will never coach again, '" Courtney said. Charges were not filed in that case. Smith was sacked last month after he was charged with criminal trespassing in relation to dropping his children off at his ex-wife's home against her wishes. Officials running a massive public university aren't as likely to be the latter, but they wouldn't be the first or last to have money and power turn them into the latest, shameful version of the former.

The Smiths divorced in 2016.

"It came back to me that what was reported wasn't actually what happened", Meyer said.
