Samsung goes bigger than ever with Galaxy Note9

Samsung goes bigger than ever with Galaxy Note9

Note 9 with Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display houses 4000mAh battery - 21 per cent bigger that Note 8 - that is paired with fast-charging technology compatible with both wired and wireless charging.

Samsung has unveiled a new flagship phone and smartwatch, as well as previewing its new smart home speaker during a busy event in NY.

The Note 9 will be Samsung's second Note model since its Note 7 was recalled because of its tendency to burst into flames.

While the S9+ came with a maximum storage capacity of 256GB, the Note 9 takes it a step further and doubles it up to 512GB with up to 8GB of RAM as opposed to 6 on the S9+.

USA TODAY is providing live coverage of the unveiling in the player above starting at 11:00 am ET.

That's a lot of money for a phone that looks almost identical to last year's model, save one change: the location of the fingerprint sensor.

"We're three generations removed now", Samsung's director of USA product marketing, Suzanne De Silva, said of the company's renewed confidence in the battery.

Fortnite fans who do decide to pre-order the Samsung Note 9 today will get a nice Fortnite-specific treat. "There is a lot of pressure on this new release to be successful and lay the groundwork for future innovation and cross-selling opportunities in a fiercely competitive smart phone market".

"It will be interesting to see whether Samsung's beefiest ever price tag will act as a deterrent to potential new converts despite the increased storage and extended battery life - especially as mobile users are increasingly looking for the flexibility offered by SIM-only contracts". The successor to Galaxy Note 8, the new phone comes with improved design, incremental specifications upgrade, and a revamped S Pen with Bluetooth control. A dual-lens camera, with better zooming, came to the Note 8 months before the S9 Plus got it, for instance.

Samsung says that with a Note 9 with 512 GB of storage, an additional 512 card from Samsung (which hasn't been released) would get it to over 1 TB of storage.

The extra battery power and large screen do add some weight to the phone which comes in at 201 grams.

Since then, Samsung has subjected its phones to multiple inspections, including X-rays and stress tests at extreme temperatures.
