Mobile suffers data breach affecting 2.2 million customers

But data breaches and new kinds of cellular fraud are gradually making the practice less effective, Guido says.

The breach occurred August 20 when the companies cyber-security team discovered the hackers and shut down access to sensitive data.

"None of your financial data (including credit card information) or social security card numbers were involved, and no passwords were compromised", the company wrote.

T-Mobile isn't really saying a great deal about the incident other than trying to downplay its severity and impressing on customers that it acted quickly to stop the attack.

T-Mobile on Thursday disclosed a breach that exposed the personal data of about two million customers, according to a report.

In T-Mobile's statement about the hack, the carrier clarifies that those who were affected are being promptly notified with a text, like the one you see here. Affecting customers in the USA, the hack is not the first time T-Mobile customers have been put at risk; a couple of years ago company data was leaked via Experian.

That information included customer names, billing zip codes, phone numbers, email addresses, account numbers and account types (prepaid or postpaid).

Did you receive an alert regarding this T-Mobile data breach? For more information, you can contact customer care by dialing 611, using messaging on MyT-Mobile.com or the T-Mobile app, or use iMessage with Apple Business Chat. However, once the information is stolen there's very little that can be done.
