Pastor Performed Baptism At A Lake. Crocodile Killed Him

Docho Eshete and about 80 members of his congregation gathered Sunday morning at the southern end of Lake Abaya - close to a national park where enormous crocodiles have been reported to cover the shore.

"He baptised the first person and he passed on to another one", a resident of the nearby town of Arba Minch told the BBC's Amharic language service.

The pastor suffered bites to his legs, back and hands and died in the attack.

A giant crocodile killed an African pastor as he was conducting a mass baptism.

Even after their continuous attempts, fishermen and locals failed to salvage pastor Docho, police said.

"All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor, pushing aside the person he was baptising".

Crocodiles are found in freshwater habitats like rivers and lakes.

Those at the ceremony prevented the pastor's body being taken by the crocodile who escaped.

The "reddish-brown" water also makes it hard to spot crocodiles in the vicinity, per the Telegraph.

Conservationists say crocodile attacks are common throughout parts of Africa, where the animals live close to humans, according to the Telegraph.

Despite their efforts to block the crocodile with their nets, by the time they reached Mr Eshetem he was already dead.
