Blatter says England should host World Cup

Blatter says England should host World Cup

"Any meetings that could be held are being realized in the framework of his private visit and are not official", Peskov said when asked if Blatter has met or would meet Putin.

Blatter's successor as Federation Internationale de Football Association president, Gianni Infantino - who played his part in that cringeworthy showing for the television cameras while sat between the two leaders - won't mind either.

Blatter, much to FIFA's obvious unease, attended Wednesday's Portugal-Morocco game at the Luzhniki Stadium and then had dinner with Putin and deputy prime minister Vitaly Mutko in the head of state's Kremlin apartment.

Argentine government security official Guillermo Madero, who is in Russian Federation, told The Associated Press that the fan "won't be able to enter stadiums at the tournament and he won't be able to watch World Cup matches".

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday Blatter was visiting Russian Federation in a non-official capacity, and Blatter later said his meeting with Putin had not yet been confirmed.

Blatter's ban was imposed shortly after the Swiss attorney general's office began criminal proceedings against him on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation.

"There have been no concrete agreements or understandings, and no specific discussions are being conducted now", the spokesman said at the time. This was reported by press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

Blatter, 82, said he had dined with Putin on Wednesday and congratulated him on Russia's organisation.

Fulfilling a long-standing personal invitation from Putin to attend the World Cup, Blatter will travel to St. Petersburg to see Brazil play Costa Rica on Friday.

"It is good to be a fan", Blatter said before posing for photographs with the laminated Fan ID card. "Football should help, perhaps, to solve political problems", he said.

"1966 was the last time England held a World Cup, so it is right for them not only to bid, but to organise the World Cup", said Blatter.
