Will Power finally wins the Indy 500

Though Patrick's full-time racing career might be over, her time in the spotlight is not.

Australia's Will Power has filled the one hole in his resume by winning the Indianapolis 500 while Danica Patrick's ground-breaking career and Helio Castroneves's shot at Brickyard history both came to a crashing end.

She may now turn to her acting and voice-over career, which has seen numerous appearances as herself on talk shows, reality series and hosting gigs.

Patrick also wrecked of her final race in NASCAR at the Daytona 500 earlier this year.

"I just can't believe it", he said after the race. I had a lot of good fortune here and did still have some this month.

But Patrick dropped down the field to just outside the top 10 early in the running and later admitted the vehicle was tough to drive from the outset. "She's got a great shot because she has a really good vehicle underneath her and a good team".

In just a few hours, Danica Patrick's racing career will come to an end.

"Obviously just didn't finish the way we wanted". But she said this week that she didn't have any regrets about her career.

"That guy was sitting here this morning before I walked in, sitting in his firesuit next to his engineer ready to go, about 6:30 this morning", Cindric said.

"But I kind of said before I came here that I feel like if it's a complete disaster - "complete" like as in not in the ballpark at all, look silly - then people might remember that".

During lap 68 of the race, Patrick lost control and hit the outer wall before sliding across the track, hitting the interior wall, and finally coming to a stop on the grass, the AP reports. "I just wish I could have finished stronger".

An IndyCar series champion and four times runner-up, Power delivered a cool, calculated drive on a sizzling hot day to reach Victory Lane, becoming the first Australian to win the famed race and giving owner Roger Penske his 17th Indy 500 success. "I'm not going to miss the nervous feeling one bit".

Three-time victor Helio Castroneves also crashed, when his No. 3 Pennzoil Chevrolet spun outside of Turn 4 on Lap 145.

From there, it was just a matter of navigating the lapped vehicle of Charlie Kimball, and counting down the final laps.
