Porn star Stormy Daniels suing Donald Trump over 'defamatory' tweet

Adult film star Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump in US federal court Monday afternoon claiming he made a defamatory statement when commenting on her description of a man she alleged threatened her in 2011.

Porn star Stormy Daniels escalated her legal battle against President Donald Trump on Monday, claiming in a new lawsuit that Trump defamed her by calling her claims that she had sexual relationship with him a "total con job".

At issue is a tweet by Trump in which he dismissed a composite sketch that Daniels says depicted a man who threatened her in 2011 to stay quiet about her alleged relationship with Trump. "Mr. Trump used his national and global audience of millions of people to make a false factual statement to denigrate and attack Ms. Clifford".

According to Monday's court filing, Daniels has been "exposed to death threats and other threats of physical violence, causing her both emotional and economic damages".

The harrowing incident happened a few weeks after Daniels agreed to discuss the alleged tryst with In Touch magazine - which was tipped off about the matter by her ex-husband, her suit says. He's also defending Cohen against Daniels' suit, which seeks to null their nondisclosure agreement because it lacks Trump's signature. "We fully intend on bringing it to light", the lawyer said.

Neither Trump campaign representatives nor Ryan responded to requests for comment by the network's reporters.

The Trump campaign may have violated campaign finance laws by spending almost $228,000 in campaign funds to cover the legal expenses for President Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen, ABC News reported. Cohen is under federal investigation for matters relating to the Daniel's payoff, including campaign finance violations.

Cohen asked for a delay after Federal Bureau of Investigation agents raided his home and office several weeks ago.

Avenatti also referenced a "con job", tweeting that "FBI search warrants uncovering EXISTING documents and recordings showing con job after con job pulled on REAL people and very REAL American citizens". She was on her way to a fitness class, she says, when a man pulled up to her and threatened her.

Trump retweeted a photo of the sketch alongside a picture of Daniels' former boyfriend and wrote, "A sketch years later about a nonexistent man".

White House reps didn't return messages.

Trump is also facing a NY defamation lawsuit filed by Summer Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice.
