Almost 100 shops and 50 vehicles were gutted in the clashes on Saturday morning after hundreds of youths took to the streets to pelt stones.

However, the police was able to control the violence.

Trouble had begun at around 10 pm on Friday when two groups clashed at Motikaranja locality over an illegal water tap connection. According to doctors, most of those admitted in hospital have injuries because of stone pelting.

While the actual reason behind the riots is yet to be ascertained, some reports indicate that the Aurangabad civic body, which embarked on a demolition drive of unauthorised tap connections, demolished one of the taps that belonged to a shrine. Several police teams have been formed to investigate the incidents that took place in multiple pockets of the city. He also said that many police officials have been injured during the clashes. Taking to Twitter, he expressed regret over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in Maharashtra and laid the blame on the CM's door, lambasting him for failing in his duties as the state's home minister.

Mr. Bharambe said police units had been brought in from adjoining districts. DCP (Zone-I) Vinayak Dhakne was quoted as saying in the report, "We have deployed heavy bandobast across the city and riot control police has been put to action". Appealing for peace, the NCP leader asked police to take local people in confidence while handling the tense situation.

Tension escalated in the nearby areas of Gandhinagar, Moti Karanja and Rosa Bagh as well. The youths from different groups burned some shops and also attacking each other with some pelting stones.

In another tweet he promised support to the ones who suffered loss of property in the clashes, while also ensuring them adequate legal help.
