Everton star wants Rooney to stay at Goodison Park

Rooney left Everton's Finch Farm training ground early on Friday before the rest of the squad trained, with the club later saying that their number 10 had picked up a knee injury which is likely to keep him out of the Blues' final game of the season against West Ham.

It is understood Rooney has been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season.

The Croxteth-born player is believed to have been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season, although the United States transfer window only opens in July.

"Only when I speak to him later today will I find out where the situation lies".

"I've always looked at Wayne Rooney as someone who just wants to play football, wants to get on the ball, touch the ball 40, 50, 60, 70 times and sometimes that has been his Achilles heel".

Sam Allardyce has denied Wayne Rooney has asked to leave Everton but insisted the former England captain can not be given assurances over his playing time at Goodison Park.

"Wayne is the leading goalscorer but quite a few of those are penalties so that is the main aim if you are going to finish higher in the league".

"He's (Rooney's) had a hard time since last summer but we've all come through that, Wayne included".

Rooney rejoined Everton in July 2017 and scored 11 goals before Christmas but has not been an automatic pick for Allardyce in recent weeks. If the player wants to leave - if any player does - I'm comfortable with it.

"If you watch Lionel Messi play football in a live game you can not believe how many times he stands still in a football match".

Allardyce was also asked about media reports suggesting that Rooney has asked for guarantees over playing time next season should he say at Goodison Park. "He's never got carried away and that's why he's played so well and achieved so much".

"If they don't play well, you can't select them". That's it. Next season is already planned.
