Syracuse Fraternity Permanently Expelled for Discriminatory Videos

Syeverud added that an "investigation of individual students involved has been pursued with speed and vigour" and that other Greek letter organisations will be examined, as they realise this issue extends beyond one fraternity and a couple of videos.

Another video released Saturday by The Daily Orange, the school's newspaper, shows several fraternity members simulating a sexual assault of a mentally disabled person.

A Syracuse University fraternity has been permanently expelled after posting two offensive videos that its members deemed satire, the New York school announced Saturday.

The decision was made out of "an abundance of caution and ongoing concern for our campus community", the safety official added.

Chancellor Kent Syverud calls the Theta Tau video "racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, ableist and sexist". "They especially offend all Syracuse University holds dear about diversity and inclusion of people with disabilities", Syverud said regarding the second video. The clip appears to stem from the same event as the earlier video, which showed men laughing uproariously at performances punctuated by pantomimed sex acts and racist language about blacks, Jews and Hispanics.

Theta Tau was already expelled from Syracuse after the first video emerged. "Outcomes could include suspension or expulsion from Syracuse University".

"This event was never meant to be centered around racism or hate", the chapter said in a statement. SU refused to release the video, but The Daily Orange obtained a recording of the video and posted it on its website Wednesday.

Amid ongoing investigations, the fraternity chapter insist that the video was meant to be "satirical" and that they were deliberately acting like an intolerant person for the objective of the "sketch". Syracuse University doesn't plan to release them to the public. "In addition, my office will not be party to the distribution of this hateful and hurtful content".
