Sweden announces Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not return for World Cup

Sweden national team manager Janne Anderson has ruled out a return for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, just days after the player seemed to imply he would feature in some capacity in Russian Federation.

The 36-year-old striker, who moved to LA Galaxy from Manchester United last month, has frequently expressed his desire to come out from retirement and play at the tournament.

Los Angeles Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not available for selection for Sweden's World Cup campaign, the nation's FA chief Lars Richt clarifies. He said he has not changed his decision regarding playing in the national team.

Ibrahimovic retired from worldwide football after Euro 2016.

It's official. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not play in the 2018 World Cup.

Ibrahimovic has been in fine form since retiring from the national team. He was not going to be in the team after the European Championship, and I respected him. The striker, who recently joined the LA Galaxy, has hinted that he could make a return to the national team for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"Ibrahimovic said no to the national team", Andersson said when asked about Ibrahimovic's chances of making the team, as quoted by the Sun.

He said: "I have obviously been intensively courted by betting companies throughout my career, but up until now I have not been presented to anything that has triggered me. And at the moment I have other things to do than to think about what would be if".
