Russia, UK engages in war of words at UNSC meet

Dr Christine Blanshard, the medical director at Salisbury District Hospital, said in a statement that 66-year-old Sergei Skripal "is responding well to treatment, improving rapidly and is no longer in a critical condition".

Yulia Skripal, who's father Sergei Skripal remains in a critical condition, released a statement via British police overnight, expressing her gratitude to those who came to her aid.

Blanshard said Friday that Yulia Skripal could 'look forward to the day when she is well enough to leave the hospital, ' but called any speculation about her release date 'just that - speculation'.

She said it was hard to discern why Yulia Skripal recovered faster than her father.

In response, more than two dozen Western allies including Britain, Australia, the U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation have ordered out over 150 Russian diplomats in a show of solidarity.

In response, British Ambassador Karen Pierce said London had conveyed Russia's demand for consular access to the spy's daughter Yulia Skripal and that the British government had acted entirely properly within worldwide convention.

"Where are the animals, what state are they in?"

Britain's foreign ministry issued a statement Friday saying, "Let us be clear, this was attempted murder using an illegal chemical weapon that we know Russian Federation possesses".

Kovalenko also questioned why so many Russian citizens have died "under very mysterious circumstances" in Britain.

The ambassador also disputed comments tweeted Wednesday by British Secretary of State Boris Johnson, that British defense research laboratory Porton Down identified the nerve agent as military grade Novichok, that "Russia investigated delivering nerve agents, likely for assassination" and stockpiled small quantities of the chemical. Investigators determined that they had been poisoned by a nerve agent and believed that the pair was intentionally targeted.

Kelly Currie, U.S. deputy ambassador to the United Nations, voiced support for Britain's position, saying that the meeting was an attempt by Russian Federation "to use the Council for political gains".

On Thursday (Friday NZT), Russia called a UN Security Council meeting to discuss the Skripal poisonings.

Tensions rose to a new high between the two countries after what the United Kingdom and its allies alleged was a nerve-agent attack by Russian Federation on Sergei and Yulia Skripal in the southern English city of Salisbury last month.

Russian Federation has denied involvement in the attack and on Thursday its embassy in London tweeted concerning the condition of Skripal's pets.

According to BBC, the British authorities told Viktoria Skripal her visa application had been turned down as violating migration rules.

Moscow's ambassador to London Alexander Yakovenko said on Thursday Russia had never made Novichok, the Soviet-era nerve agent which British experts say was the toxin used. "In reality, though, they were really important pieces of evidence", she wrote.
