Mosul Deaths: Aircraft carrying 38 bodies lands in Amritsar

The Indian workers, missing since 2014, were killed by the ISIS in Mosul, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj told parliament last month.

"But we have sent more DNA samples taken from Yadav's relatives to Iraqi authorities and there is a possibility that the remains would be released soon as 70 percent of the DNA matching has already been done", Singh told reporters.

Minister of State for External Affairs General V K Singh, who left for Iraq on Sunday, also accompanied the bodies.

Singh had claimed that the victims had arrived in Iraq illegally as they were not found to have been registered with any Indian embassy in the region.

To a query, he said that had they got any clue about the Indian men, they could have been saved like nurses were saved in Iraq. Of the 39 Indians killed, 27 belonged to Punjab.

Mos said that one person's mortal remains are still in Iraq as DNA did not match. "Government is with you in this hour of grief", Sidhu said while appealing to all parties not to politicize the incident as reported by Indian Express.

The minister said that had the government had any information about these people being in danger, it could have tried to save them.

General Singh further hit out at the Opposition for politicising the issue and said, "Opposition, particularly Congress, played a negative role".

The female Turkish citizens had surrendered to Kurdish Peshmerga forces a year ago after Iraqi security forces and pro-government fighters from Popular Mobilization Units, better known by the Arabic word Hashd al-Sha'abi, recaptured the northwestern city of Tal Afar, located 63 kilometers west of Mosul, from Daesh Takfiris.

The District Magistrate of Siwan, Mahendra Kumar, who was also present at the spot said, "We will talk with the families and make them understand".

"Once the embassy had been informed about them, they can not say that they did not have a record".

Singh will first go to Amritsar to hand over the bodies of the deceased Indians to their families.
