Michael Cohen represented Sean Hannity

Michael Cohen represented Sean Hannity

After getting his start in radio, Hannity was brought on to co-host a program on Fox News.

Prosecutors, who say they raided Mr Cohen's office, home and hotel room as part of an undisclosed crime related to his personal business dealings, prefer the ordinary procedure of reviewing the documents with a panel of prosecutors unrelated to the investigation - a so-called "taint team". Hannity interrupted to say he was going to "deal with it later in the show", but Dershowitz wasn't done. Hannity, the top-rated personality on the most watched USA cable news network, told his viewers on April 9 that the raid on Cohen was part an effort by federal investigators to wrongly impeach the president.

Agents were seeking evidence on various matters, including a $130,000 (£90,000) payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Attorney Michael Cohen entered federal court in Manhattan on Monday for the afternoon proceeding. That's when one of Cohen's lawyers said for the first time publicly that Cohen has worked for Fox News host Sean Hannity. In fact, he added, people in his circles believe that Cohen is a greater danger to his other clients than to Trump.

"I really think that you should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen when you talked about him on this show", Dershowitz said.

In the course of those arguments, Cohen's lawyers acknowledged that he has had only about three legal clients in the past year and a half - Trump, former Republican National Committee deputy finance chairman Elliot Broidy and a mystery third client whom Cohen initially didn't want to name. "We have to wait and see what the volume is and how you can argue". He said it was odd to see his name appearing on the Fox News Channel and wondered aloud if he should release a statement. "His word can never again be trusted". Meaning: His expertise lies in intimidation and the like. "Hannity has been reporting on this Michael Cohen story from the beginning, from the beginning, but he conveniently never mentioned that Cohen was his guy, which even for Sean Hannity is pretty shady".

Hannity, 56, said on Monday that he had never paid for Cohen's services or been represented by him, but had sought confidential legal advice from him. I never paid Michael Cohen for legal fees.

In a filing earlier Monday, Cohen's lawyers said investigators "took everything" during raids last week on his residence and office.

It's been a rough start to the week for Sean Hannity. Surely he and his backers will leap to the common defense that Hannity doesn't claim to be a journalist and is thus not bound by the usual ethical considerations of the profession.

Mr Cohen's lawyers did not detail the type of legal work he did for Hannity.

After explaining his relationship with Cohen, Hannity did what he does best: attacking the media. Would he be able to report fairly on the actions of the Trump Organization?

Cohen appears to have taken a different position than Trump on how the documents should be handled. As reported by this blog, Hannity during the presidential election actually participated in a video promotion for the Trump campaign. "The president has the right, he is entitled to perform the initial review of materials".

Cohen did not respond to a request for comment.

It's unclear whether Hannity also is under investigation.
