Chiefs select Breeland Speaks in 2nd Round of 2018 NFL Draft

The Chiefs did not have a choice in the first round. But that doesn't mean much considering the Chiefs used none of their original picks Friday night, when they moved around to grab a defensive end, defensive tackle and outside linebacker.

The Chiefs did not have a first-round pick after trading it away last season to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. Twelve of those came in his final game as Ole Miss won the Egg Bowl.

The club engineered a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals to select Speaks with the 14th selection of the second round.

Speaks started twice at defensive tackle as a freshman, then became a regular for the Rebels as a sophomore. As a senior, he racked up 10 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks.

Kansas City is focusing on bolstering the defensive line thus far in the draft, adding Nnadi after snagging Breeland Speaks out of MS in the second round. They have a glaring need for a cornerback, pass rusher and defensive lineman, though tight end and offensive line are also possibilities.
