Senate intelligence leaders say House GOP leaked senator's texts

Senate intelligence leaders say House GOP leaked senator's texts

The complaint follows a report in The New York Times citing congressional officials who say the Senate Intelligence Committee determined that a Republican on the House panel leaked messages to Fox News that were sent by Warner. Richard Burr of North Carolina, and its top Democrat, Sen.

But in January, a Nunes staffer requested copies for the House panel, "a person familiar with the request who was not authorized to talk about it publicly" told the newspaper. The text messages - in which the Senate Intelligence Committee's ranking member, Mark Warner (D-Va.), attempts to arrange a meeting with the author of the controversial Trump dossier, Christopher Steele, by talking to a Russia-linked lawyer - were initially shared with the House Intelligence Committee by the Senate Intelligence Committee, at the request of the former's chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

The Senate Intelligence Committee has concluded that Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee were behind the leak.... Elsewhere in the New York Times reporting, it notes that Warner and Burr complained to House Speaker Paul Ryan about Nunes, and Nunes' spokesman, when contacted by the Times, didn't deny that the leak came from the committee. He also denied discussing concerns about Mr. Nunes with Mr. Ryan.

"The New York Times, a prominent purveyor of leaks, is highlighting anonymous sources leaking information that accuses Republicans of leaking information", spokesperson Jack Langer told the Times.

REVEALED: Devin Nunes' GOP intel members leaked text messages meant to discredit Russia probe

Nunes' default response to criticism of the misleading intelligence memo he worked with President Trump to release last month over the objections of the intelligence community has been to attack the press. "I'm not sure if this coverage could possibly get more absurd".

On Twitter, Trump used Fox News' story about Warner's texts to try and discredit him. Mark Warner and a US lawyer with ties to Russia, The New York Times disclosed Thursday. President Donald Trump and other Republicans loyal to him quickly jumped on the report to try to discredit Warner, suggesting that the senator was acting surreptitiously to try to talk with the former British spy who assembled a dossier of salacious claims about connections between Trump, his associates and Russian Federation.

While the report caused Mr. Trump to question why Mr. Warner would want a private meeting with Mr. Steele, at the time, Mr. Warner and Mr. Burr condemned the leaks in a joint statement calling it "incomplete information" taken out of context. Documents later turned over to the House Intelligence Committee included no page numbers, nor did those appearing with the Fox News report.
