Sam Bradford to sign 1-year deal with Arizona Cardinals

Sam Bradford to sign 1-year deal with Arizona Cardinals

Arizona is now estimated to have almost $22 million in available cap space, but that's before the expected signing of quarterback Sam Bradford, who will reportedly make $20 million on a one-year deal with an option for 2019.

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly replacing one Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback with another. In the end they get Bradford for a reported $20 million in 2018 and an option year in 2019 for $15 million.

Bradford lead the National Football League in completion percentage at 62 percent in 2016 but a year ago was a lost season for him with the Minnesota Vikings.

The 30-year-old, who was selected with the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, hasn't quite lived up to the expectations that come with being a first overall pick.

Things didn't go according to plan. His 2017 season was short-lived, however, after a knee injury cost him all but two games in the regular season. It was to the same knee where the quarterback had twice torn his ACL, though tests this time revealed no structural damage.

Bradford returned in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, but he was pulled before halftime after aggravating the injury. He spent the better part of two months on injured reserve before being activated as Case Keenum's backup during the postseason.

We'll see what happens but if Bradford wants to make it through the year, he absolutely needs offensive line protection. "I'm just happy to be on the field".

Nonetheless, Bradford brought stability to the quarterback position.

Bradford has appeared in 80 games - all as a starter - for the St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia and Minnesota. He did show much promise in the season opener putting up a almost flawless performance by completing 27-of-32 passes for three touchdowns while holding a 143.0 passer rating.
