Nintendo teases Smash Bros. for Switch, coming this year

Switch owners have been hoping for a Super Smash Bros announcement ever since launch, with many of them assuming that Nintendo would port Super Smash Bros for Wii U over to its new console. And with it, all that energy has brought a lot of speculation about just what the game will be.

Both of these could be indications that we're looking at a new game in the Super Smash Bros series. However, there are some details that fans may have overlooked or completely missed. The camera zooms in on her eyeball and you see a reflection of the Super Smash Bros. logo, a Smash Ball, in flames.

Super Smash Bros is one of Nintendo's most popular fighting games. Check out Sakurai's tweet, translated by Source Gaming, below.

Switch Port or New Game? Here's the entire list of Switch titles at that price point.

In many ways, this could be a GOTY treatment for Smash Bros that we simply don't see from the company.

It was Smash. And the crowd went wild.

From his blue tunic to the bow to his hairstyle, this will be the Link from BotW and that will likely mean he'll get some new attacks or variations to his moveset. The game will also feature HD Rumble and players will be able to use their Joy-Cons as drumsticks.

With no more wording or explanation, fans were left to glean what they could from the trailer.

The clip concludes with "2018" flashing up on screen, confirming that the game will be out this year. Which of the Switch and 3DS games on sale are you picking up? Do you think it's a port?

These are not confirmed and not all silhouettes can be made out, but here are our guesses as to who each character is!

The Switch has caught on in a way the Wii U never did, and it's an incredibly fun time to be a Nintendo fan, because they know exactly what they're doing with teases like this.
