Cricket Australia document revealed: The full findings of Smith, Warner, Bancroft scandal

STEVE Smith and David Warner have been slapped with historic 12-month suspensions, according to an Aussie cricket commentator.

Released on Wednesday morning, the findings of a Cricket Australia investigation are laid bare for all to see. They have to live with this whether they play for Australia again or not. We love all of our players and they are going through a really tough time.

But Cricket Australia and its chief executive, James Sutherland, have been under pressure from the public back home, sponsors and even the prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, to make an example of those involved. That is why the process has had to be thorough to ensure that all relevant issues have been examined.

Cricket Australia had announced an independent review into "the conduct and culture" of the team, which the ACA said should examine the behaviour of administrators.

The yearlong ban for Warner, the pugnacious 31-year-old opening batsman, may mean an end to his worldwide career.

All three were charged with breaching the code of conduct and bringing the game into disrepute.

Looking at the case of Australia's shamed skipper, the newspaper says that "Smith could unravel in exile".

Having seemingly been pinpointed as the chief orchestrator behind the ball-tampering plot, he was ostracised by his teammates and was described by the Australian press as having "gone rogue". "They have got a place organised for him", he said.

He added: "Please someone look after Steve Smith".

All three players will be permitted to play club cricket, and will be encouraged to do so, to maintain links with the cricket community. CA said the trio would return home.

Australian cricket great Shane Warne said he was "shocked" by the incident but questioned the severity of the punishment.

A seamer during his playing days, De Villiers says the way Australia were getting the ball to behave aroused his suspicions.

An official announcement of their suspensions is expected soon.

At The Age newspaper in Melbourne, the "twists and turns" keep on coming in the aftermath of the ball-tampering saga.

The Australia coach has not been sanctioned over the affair after a Cricket Australia investigation concluded he had no knowledge of the tampering in the third Test against South Africa.

Smith and Warner were set to pocket $2.4 million each from the Twenty20 tournament, while they will miss out on new national contracts that were believed to be worth $2m and $1.4m respectively in 2017-18.

On Wednesday, Cricket Australia announced that Smith and Warner were banned for 12 months and Bancroft for nine months.

"There are elements of courage and leadership that have been shown in this", he said.

As vice-captain, Warner was a key cog in that leadership group. Smith and Warner were supposed to captain their respective franchises, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, in this edition but stepped down in the wake of the scandal.

Waugh, who captained one of the finest Australian sides during the late 90's till early part of new millennium termed the Australian's team dishonest approach as an "error of judgement" and called them to revisit the "Spirit of Cricket" manual which they had customised from the original MCC manual.
