Microsoft Photos Companion for Android, iOS transfers photos to PCs easily

Unfortunately, unless you already use a cloud backup service such as Microsoft's OneDrive or Google Drive, manually transferring images to your main PC can be an inconvenient and lengthy process - especially if your photos already take up a sizable portion of your mobile device's storage space.

Microsoft notes that the mobile transfer features are available in the Windows 10 Photos version 2018.18011.13110.0 or higher. Plus, it eliminates the requirement of using the same Wi-Fi network on the mobile device and PC to transfer content that is mandatory with the Photos Companion app.

Microsoft has released a new app for wirelessly transferring videos and photos from mobile devices to the Windows 10 Microsoft Photos app. "We also knew that Wi-Fi access in the classroom was great between devices, but that any solution that required the cloud for transfer could be blocked by overloaded networks", the company added.

Microsoft has recently developed an app called "Photos Companion". This will also give users the ability to enhance and edit photos, customize them with ink, and share them on the PC.

To be fair, there are over a dozen possible ways to wireless copy your photos from phone to PC.

Microsoft has launched a new iOS app intended for iPhone users who like taking pictures. So the Garage and Photos team opted for a Wi-Fi based direct transfer system. Users select the photos they want to transfer from the companion app and then use settings in the Photos app to begin transferring them over Wi-Fi. For instance, you have to scan the QR code every time you want to sync your photos. However, the app seems important for students and educators. You can download the Photos Companion app on your iOS device by visiting the App Store, or on your Android device by going to Google Play.
