Andy Murray to take more breaks in 2018

Andy Murray to take more breaks in 2018

Andy Murray has hinted he may not be able to recapture the form that made him world No 1 as he bids to return from hip surgery at the Brisbane International.

Murray was not due to play his first match in Brisbane until Thursday but opted out of the tournament after failing to train on Tuesday.

"I'm aware of the situation at the end of a year ago (2017) especially because for tennis and the sport it's not good", Murray said of the injury situation.

"I don't really cramp a lot, so I'm actually surprised that today my body was like that", Muguruza said, adding that her calf muscles started to cramp early in the second set. 'I've really missed it. "I would love to be number one in the world, but I just want to play".

Murray said he'd been trying to rest and rehabilitate the problematic right hip, but realized after some practice sets in Australia against leading players that he wasn't fit for competition and needed to reassess his options.

I'm very disappointed to be withdrawing from the Brisbane International.

Murray admitted he wasn't heading into this tournament or the Australian Open with great expectations.

"Obviously continuing rehab is one option and giving my hip more time to recover", Murray wrote in an Instagram post. "I'm hoping that that doesn't continue happening".

With Rafael Nadal (knee) and Novak Djokovic (elbow) in doubt for the Australian Open, the 30-year-old Scot said other players should follow his example.

While it was bad new for the British No. 1, compatriot Kyle Edmund got off to a good start in Brisbane by beating talented teenager Denis Shapovalov to advance to the last-16.
