3 reasons why Bears made the right decision hiring Matt Nagy

3 reasons why Bears made the right decision hiring Matt Nagy

A team that has traditionally been all about the defensive side of the ball is going with offense by bringing the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator on board as its new head coach.

In 2015, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and then became the sole offensive coordinator in 2017. But I called every play in that second half.

So there you have it. Among other heinous indiscretions.

Nagy has spent the last five years with the Kansas City Chiefs. Ron Rivera, Doug Pederson, Todd Bowles, John Harbaugh and Sean McDermott are the others.

A few hours later - and just 48 hours removed from the end of his season with the Chiefs - Nagy arrived at his new home via a private jet. Impressive numbers for a first time playcaller.

Nagy said he would call the offensive plays for the Bears.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost a playoff game on Saturday night, and on Monday they lost their offensive coordinator. It wasn't a stunningly good showing on its own.

One of the most logical landing spots for the Eagles' quarterbacks coach has been filled. He's innovative. He has strong character.

The experience running that offense will help Nagy in his new role-his first as a head coach at any level.

But don't take 30 minutes of poor judgment and play calling as a sign that Nagy is a bad coach.

Fox at least helped restore some of the professionalism that was missing under former GM Phil Emery and coach Marc Trestman. Maybe he's still a little green. Nope, because Pace had his mind made up on Monday morning. "That's a learning situation for me". "I've gone back and I've looked at [the game tape]".

Sports Chicago's live press conference coverage will be hosted by Bears Pre/Post Game Live & WSCR AM 670 "The Score" host Laurence Holmes (@LaurenceWHolmes) and will feature post-press conference commentary from NBC Sports Chicago Bears beat reporter JJ Stankevitz (@JJStankevitz).

As well he should. Had Kansas City won, Nagy could have been interviewed early this week but not hired. But now Nagy is flying solo - and he just aced his simulator test in front of the media by saying the failure in that loss was on him. Pace, who admitted he had "mixed emotions" watching the game, came away from the interviewing believing in what Nagy was selling. There were no known second interviews.

"It's a really great feeling when you meet a person and everything clicks, and everything comes together", Pace said Tuesday at Nagy's introductory press conference at Halas Hall. "And Matt has a ton of substance".

He sees "a "want" there to be great" by the organization.

But in that answer, Nagy laid out the three elements he thought were most important - trust, honesty and communication. Either the 23-year-old quarterback isn't as good as he was projected to be coming out of college, or a lack of receivers and poor coaching led to him hitting a wall. There will be hardships and setbacks along the way - and yes, you hope Nagy isn't having to apologize to his team or the media on a weekly basis for his mistakes. Picking the right head coach was the first piece. Depending on Nagy's influence and Trubisky's progression into his second year, we could be looking at the league's most improved team.

If the Bears can finally get Trubisky going, they'd have the potential to double their win total in 2018. I know that our offense and our offensive staff supports me.

"But I called every play in that second half". "I'm going to grow".
