FA to pressure UEFA to act on Brewster racism claims

FA to pressure UEFA to act on Brewster racism claims

Liverpool submitted an official complaint after playing Spartak Moscow in the UEFA Youth League tie at Tranmere's Prenton Park three weeks ago after one alleged incident.

Mironov's agent denied the Spartak player had racially abused Brewster, but UEFA has since charged the player with racist behaviour.

The 17-year-old chronicled seven episodes in which he or a team-mate were abused racially by their opponents.

"After the game he tried to apologise but I wouldn't shake his hand". And he says not enough is being done: "I don't think Uefa take this thing seriously".

Brewster - who scored two hat-tricks in two games at the Under-17 World Cup including one in the semi-final against Brazil - told Thursday's edition of The Guardian UEFA were turning a blind eye to the issue. Then their player leaned over me, right down to my face and said: 'Suck my d***, you n*****, you n****'. Brewster said in his Guardian interview.

Klopp said: "All the support he needs, he wants". He says he remembers a fellow player being called a "monkey" by a member of the opposition in the tournament final.

"We have raised with both UEFA and Federation Internationale de Football Association a need for discrimination to be covered as part of the pre-tournament player workshops, and also expressed our concern at difficulties encountered in trying to report incidents".

"I hope something happens and he gets banned but I don't know if anything will".

And Brewster admitted the impact that such racist abuse has on him.

"I want to be by myself and left to think".

Under UEFA's rules any player found guilty of making racial slurs can be suspended for a minimum of 10 matches. "That is how it feels anyway, like it has been brushed under the carpet", he said.

Brewster claimed Uefa need to take racism more seriously in a national newspaper interview he requested, leading to messages of support from the likes of Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, politician Ed Miliband and chart star Stormzy.
