Watch Taylor Swift Perform 'Reputation' Songs on 'SNL'

The first song, "Are You Ready for It?", found Swift and her four dancers/backing singers performing to a pre-recorded backing track of the song's throbbing electronic rhythm.

The 27-year-old songstress appeared on the comedy sketch show one day after dropping her new album Reputation. Her stripped-down vocals, accompanied by acoustic guitar, cello, and backup vocalists, emphasized the lyrics that fans have pegged as a reference to her high-profile feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. "I LOVE YOU @LauraKHettiger".

She goes on: "We are never just good or just bad". The song that details this fall-out is titled "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things", and she explains her side in verse two.

"I've been in the public eye since I was 15 years old".

Swift concludes: "Let me say it louder again, louder for those in the back ..."

Over the course of 15 songs, Swift masks her bitterness under a coat of radio-ready hooks that nearly cause listeners to forget she's singing about pop culture headlines and petty feuds.

She focused on her delivery (a tough feat, her mic was bedazzled with a very big rhinestone snake), and you could read her lyrics in her facial expressions as she bounced through the track.
