Trump Blames Kushner as He Gropes for Way Out

Kushner voluntarily turned over the documents, which were similar to the ones he provided congressional investigators earlier this year, CNN reported.

It appears the first indictments have started taking a toll on the White House - and, in turn, the Trump family - as Vanity Fair reports the president is placing the blame on Kushner for making some decisions, such as firing former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, which eventually led to the Russian probe. The president's son-in-law is not a subject of the ongoing investigation, the report added. Separately, Trump official George Papadopoulos agreed to a plea deal, admitting he lied to FBI investigators. Trump is frustrated that the investigation seems to have no end in sight, and his anger focuses on Kushner, who is also a senior White House advisor.

"So broad is the president's pardon power that he can pardon a person for past actions, even if that individual has not yet been charged", says NPR. The president is "annoyed" by the omnipresent Russian Federation fever, the adviser said, but he is comfortable with the strategy adopted by Ty Cobb, a senior White House lawyer, who has insisted on cooperating with Mr. Mueller without attacking him, in hopes of a speedy resolution. Kushner attended the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between top Trump campaign officials and a cadre of Russian figures, including some with links to the Kremlin. While Kushner and those close to the White House will only say he was in favor of the decision - or, in the words of one attorney, "did not oppose it" - there are multiple sources who say that Kushner was a driver of the decision and expected it would be a political boon for the President.

Prior to Bannon's departure from the White House, there also were reports that Ivanka had been urging her father to fire Bannon for months, while Jared and Bannon feuded for control over the president's attention and policy direction. Another possibility, they warn, is that Bannon could be attempting to "hamper" Mueller's probe by delaying the White House's responses. The Russia investigation is such a party matter, and this means that any former government official who participated in deliberations or a decision about the Russia investigation-for example the White House decision to fire FBI Director James Comey because of the Russia investigation-may not represent back to the government on behalf of anyone else with intent to influence a government decision about the Russia investigation. Lacking any real options, Trump has placed much of the blame on son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The disclosures follow the indictments this week of Manafort and his longtime business partner and Trump campaign deputy, Rick Gates.
