Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero breaks club's all-time goal record

Sergio Aguero has become Manchester City's all-time leading scorer thanks to his strike against Napoli on Wednesday evening.

The two teams traded blows throughout a thrilling 90 minutes, but City claimed a 4-2 victory to book their place in the knockout stage.

He became City's leading post-war goalscorer last season, netting in a 5-0 FA Cup demolition of West Ham to overtake club great Colin Bell, although Aguero's future in Manchester has been the subject of speculation during Pep Guardiola's tenure as manager.

Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy are long-term absentees, but David Silva and Kyle Walker are surprisingly benched in favour of Ilkay Gundogan and Danilo. Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane support Sergio Aguero.

Both teams had their moments in what was a very lively first 15 minutes, but Napoli were creating the better chances - Mertens firing at Ederson from a wide angle after another smart move.

Five minutes into the second half Stones did find the back of the net for City when he met a corner-kick with a powerful header that beat the Napoli keeper, 2-1.

City won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Etihad and will expect a tough test at the Serie A side.

Boss Pep Guardiola goes with Ederson in goal, while Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones link up in the centre of defence.

With Napoli having pegged City back to level at 2-2 from the penalty spot on 62 minutes, Aguero restored his side's lead seven minutes later with a cool finish from just inside the penalty area following a lightning counter-attack.
