Salah wants improved English Premier League showing from Liverpool

Yet nothing can be done until January at the earliest and the first priority will be for Liverpool need to start winning matches this week because they need three points away at Maribor in the Champions League tonight if they are going to stay on course to top their group.

Like his counterpart, Jurgen Klopp does not have many roster issues on his hands either ahead of the trip to Maribor. Sadio Mane is still sidelined with injury and will be joined by Adam Lallana, Adam Bogdan and Nathaniel Clyne. The Senegal worldwide suffered a hamstring injury during the global break which could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.

The Reds got off to a great start after poor build up play from Maribor saw them surrender possession in a risky area.

Liverpool have only won once in the Premier League since August but Spurs have struggled since moving to Wembley and only won there for the first time in the league last weekend. Maribor have won only one of their eight games against English opposition in all competitions (D2 L5), a 2-1 win against Wigan Athletic in the 2013/14 Europa League group stages.

After scoring Liverpool's sixth against Maribor and his first since signing from Arsenal, second-half substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain told The Guardian that there was a positive mentality at the club despite a hard start to the season that has left them eighth in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's only previous encounter with a Slovenian club came in the first round of the 2003/04 UEFA Cup. The side is in second place with 28 points through 12 games.

Roberto Firmino handed them the ideal start inside four minutes on Slovenian soil.

Tuesday could be the night when Jurgen Klopp & co. finally break the duck as they visit Maribor.

But, the gulf in class between the two sides might just be enough for the Merseyside club to eke out the required result.
