U.S. warns N Korea of "massive military response"

U.S. warns N Korea of

While North Korea did explode a nuclear weapon underground, and it has this summer tested what experts believe are ballistic missiles capable of reaching the USA mainland, it hasn't shown it can put the two together in a system that works. This action followed threats of an attack on the waters near the USA island territory of Guam which prompted a strong reaction from President Trump. "The president and his national security team will have a meeting to discuss further later today".

After Pyongyang tested a nuclear weapon Sunday, US Defense Secretary James Mattis said the US has "many military options" on North Korea and threatened Pyongyang with "a massive military response" if a US territory or US allies are targeted.

The heightened tensions with North Korea come as Congress returns to Washington after Labor Day, with Senator Amy Klobuchar among those urging caution. The leaders of South Korea, Japan and the European Union immediately called for additional U.N. sanctions against the isolated, impoverished nation of 25 million people.

"I did speak with the president", Mnuchin also said Sunday.

At the end of World War II, the United States used an atomic bomb on Japan, which relies on splitting atoms to produce explosions through nuclear fission.

South Korean officials watch news broadcasts showing North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un, at the Korea Meteorological Administration in Seoul on September 3, 2017. North Korea has made similar, unsubstantiated claims after some of its previous tests.

This afternoon, Mattis said that Kim Jong Un should take heed of the United Nations Security Council's unified voice.

It would not be the first time North Korea exaggerated its achievements - they wrongly claimed to have tested an H-bomb last January - but the country is not only on the right path towards achieving its ambitions, but it is doing so far quicker than anyone expected. "North Korea has conducted a major Nuclear Test", Trump tweeted, "Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and risky to the United States". Earlier on Sunday, the president issued a series of tweets commenting on Pyongyang's sixth test.

Donald Trump's defense secretary has warned North Korea of a "massive military response" if they threaten the United States or any of its allies.

In 2016, US companies exported $169.3 billion in goods to China and China exported $478.9 billion in goods to the United States. Despite our efforts the North Korea nuclear program is more advanced and more unsafe than ever.

North Korea's traditional ally China also denounced the test, slamming Pyongyang for ignoring global condemnation of its atomic weapons program.

South Korea's finance minister, Kim Dong-yeon, said on Monday the ministry will implement policies to support financial markets if instability caused by the latest nuclear tests in the north show signs of spreading to the real economy.

Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success. "South Korea is finding, as I have told them, that their talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work, they only understand one thing!" Estimations of the size of the explosive yield from this latest test are disputed.
