Marcus Rashford Blunder Hands Slovakia Early Lead Against England

Marcus Rashford turned from zero to hero for England as he recovered from an early mistake to score and assist as the Three Lions beat Slovakia 2-1 to move a step closer to qualifying for the World Cup.

Marcus Rashford went from villain to hero at Wembley, as having been at fault for Slovakia's shock early lead, the Manchester United frontman then scored a 25-yard scorcher to complete a spirited England comeback, after Eric Dier had cancelled out a third minute strike from Stanislas Lobotka in the latter part of a disappointing opening half for Gareth Southgate's men.

England midfielder Dele Alli faces an anxious wait to discover whether he faces any disciplinary action from Federation Internationale de Football Association after appearing to make an obscene gesture towards the referee during the second half of the 2-1 victory against Slovakia on Monday.

The 19-year-old was at fault as Stanislav Lobotka stunned a two-thirds full Wembley to give Slovakia a third-minute lead, but set up the equaliser for Eric Dier and then netted a sumptuous 20-yard victor in the second half.

The result means England only need one more point from their remaining two games to qualify automatically for the tournament next summer.

"We started poorly and I am happy to get a goal that kickstarted the game for us".

"It's a home game, we are playing good opposition, so we have got to make sure that we are tactically prepared, which we will be, but also we've got to have belief in the team that we've got".

"It's a great opportunity for us", the England boss said at Tottenham's training centre.

"We were in control for most of the game then", Dier said.

Dier said. "A fantastic show of character, after making a mistake, to score the victor which got us closer to the World Cup where hopefully he will shine".

The draw that sealed Cameroon's World Cup fate came three days after it was beaten in Nigeria 4-0.

"This English side is very exciting, they have a great future ahead", Kozak said.

After the English team once again weakly performed in the final part of the global tournament in France, the team of the "three lions" began to campaign for the qualifying round for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

It took the visitors 53 minutes to find the Maltese net and although Harry Kane's two goals were further confirmation of his global pedigree, there was little else for the travelling fans to cheer.

"His work without the ball was top drawer, he really took intelligent positions, pressed them all over and his work with the ball was excellent. But we got that right and once we went 2-1 up we were hard to play through".

"Not just this season, in terms of when I've been looking at him, but there was a long period last season where I think he's been the best defender", said Southgate.
