Broncos players release statement regarding Trump comments

Virgil Green of the Denver Broncos joins other NFL players protesting during the national anthem Sunday.

"Make no mistake - our actions were in no way a protest of the military, the flag, or those who keep us safe", the statement adds. The council includes linebacker Brandon Marshall, who is known for kneeling a year ago and using the platform to spur change with the Denver Police Department.

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson's mother was quite poignant about how she felt regarding this weekend's matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway has also expressed his feelings about standing for the fag, but also said he understood the decisions the players made.

In their message on Twitter they explained that last week, the Denver Broncos joined the National Football League in "a powerful display of unity". "We just wanted to state what happened, where our minds were", Miller said.

The end of the statement here reads, "Starting Sunday, we'll be standing together".

"There was a lot of discussion about changing the platform", the head coach explained.

"Had a meeting [Wednesday] after practice. they wanted a statement of what they were doing", Joseph said.

Broncos cornerback Chris Harris said the decision was made by the team's leaders after they held a vote on the matter.

"We have not forced these guys to stand.it's been their right to have peaceful protest", Joseph said. The group met Wednesday to see if a consensus could be found about what the players wanted to do moving forward.

"It was making this whole issue confusing to the fans, to the military, to the players, to the coaches".
