Antonio Conte offers thoughts on Pep Guardiola ahead of City clash

Antonio Conte offers thoughts on Pep Guardiola ahead of City clash

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero "sustained injuries" in a vehicle crash in the Netherlands, the club said on Friday.

The Argentina worldwide was a passenger in a taxi en route to Amsterdam airport after attending a concert by Colombian singer Maluma on Thursday evening.

Guardiola maintained that his striker was on a day-off when his taxi on the way to the airport hit a curb and crashed into a pole causing Aguero to suffer a broken rib.

In a statement, City said Aguero was in Holland "on his day off" and Guardiola was adamant his star had done nothing wrong.

And the manager confirmed that Aguero would be unavailable for Argentina for their final World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador, with the Albiceleste now outside the automatic qualifying places for Russian Federation.

Antonio Conte's team defeated City twice in the league last season, with the victory at the Etihad coming as a result of a tactical masterclass by the Chelsea manager.

"Exactly how many days he will be off, I don't know right now", he said, adding that he had "no problem" with Aguero being in Amsterdam.

Chelsea GFX vs City prediction

"The driver did not see the curve and skidded", Aguero told Argentine radio station Radio Metro. "Even though I played really well in the teams I was part of, I've never really given thought to what would've been if instead of following my music dream, I pursued the soccer dream".

Aguero who has made a flying start to the league season scoring six times in as many matches will be a big miss for City who are looking to consolidate on a strong start to the Premier League season.

Equally, Chelsea must overcome the absence of the suspended David Luiz in defence, but Wednesday's Champions League win against Atletico Madrid in Spain highlighted the champions' growing confidence.

"It was an accident and he will recover as soon as possible".

Aguero is understood to be suffering from broken ribs.

Guardiola also revealed left-back Benjamin Mendy will not return to the squad until "our Champions League semi-final".
