Border row: China cancels Indian journalists' trip

Border row: China cancels Indian journalists' trip

Chinese attempt has resulted in a face-off between the forces of the two countries.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs statement in New Delhi, the Doklam incident took place on June 16 whereas Chinese Foreign Ministry has maintained that the stand-off in which the Indian troops objected to the Peoples Liberation Army soldiers building a road occurred on June 18. It is based on a treaty signed in 1898.

Since assuming command of the Indian army last January, Rawat has raised Chinese hackles with bellicose remarks, including repeated vows that India is prepared to fight a two-front war against China and Pakistan simultaneously. "The action taken by India is a betrayal of the position taken by the Indian government in the 1890 treaty." said Geng Shuang.

It is also said that China is wary, rather displeased, of the yearly tri-party Malabar maritime exercise.

China has now accused India of staging the Sikkim impasse to impress Donald Trump. It also alleged that the Indian troops had crossed the Sikkim section of the Indo-China border. He is expected to discuss the issue with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

China is involved in several ongoing disputes, not just in the Indian Ocean, but, also the South China Sea and Korean Peninsula. Beijing initially said it stopped the Yatra due to damage to roads in Tibet after rains and landslides.

The Sikkim route to Mansarovar, which is in Tibet, was opened in 2015, enabling pilgrims to travel the 1500-km long route from Nathu La to Kailash by buses. It is located near India's land. "The Chinese side firmly encourages the usa side to instantly stop such provocative operations that damage China's power and debilitate China's security", he included. The Vietnamese leader is expected to hold consultations with top Indian leadership on expanding strategic partnership, besides participating in India-Asean Track 1.5 annual event - Delhi Dialogue on July 4-5.

"Indian Prime Minister Nehru on behalf of the Indian government explicitly recognised that the 1890 convention has defined the boundary".

"Pacts must be respected - this is a basic principle of worldwide law", Geng said. "In fact, it is the Indian side that has ignored global law and seriously interfered with China's construction activities".

"The two countries have aligned their interests in defence cooperation and counter-terrorism. Bhutan does not know that the Indian troops entered into the Doklam area, which is not in line with what is claimed by Indian", China's foreign ministry said.

Although in an IANS report, sources have suggested that the moves have nothing to do with standoff between the Indian and Chinese troops along the Sikkim border, Beijing's increased interference in the backyard of India is hardly news, yet a reason enough to be concerned about.

China earlier claimed that it was India that had ignored global law and interfered with Beijing's construction activities in the Chinese territory. The Ambassador of the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGOB) has publicly stated that it lodged a protest with the Chinese Government through their Embassy in New Delhi on June 20.

China, which does not have formal diplomatic ties with Bhutan, has denied that it has violated any treaties. And this is not the first time that such a transgression has happened in Doka La. These rogue manoeuvres were last time visible in 2008, when it razed some makeshift Indian bunkers in the area.
