Trump calls ex-FBI director Comey a 'leaker' after testimony

Senators have expressed hope that Mr Sessions' testimony on Tuesday will help flesh out the truth of Mr Comey's allegations, including Mr Sessions' presence at the White House in February when Mr Trump asked to speak to Mr Comey alone.

Gingrich also pointed out that Comey and Mueller, also a former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief, were "very close" and that 97 percent of donations from Department of Justice employees who contributed to the 2016 presidential election were in support of former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.

And Trump repeated his criticism on Sunday, writing: "I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible". Dershowitz went on to say that even if we don't like the President having that authority, he has that power and you can't turn a Constitutional power into a criminal act.

Mr Trump asked Mr Comey to be loyal during a private dinner after the inauguration, and they ended up with a compromise of Mr Comey saying he would honour a pledge of "honest loyalty".

Mr Comey alleges that Mr Trump then privately asked him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation. "So it was just an excuse, but we were very, very happy, and frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things just weren't true", Trump said. Trump said that he "did not say that", but "there would be nothing wrong if I had". Asked if he had taped their conversations, as he implied in a threatening tweet shortly after he fired Comey, Trump said he would reveal that answer soon.

"He then said, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

Asked if he were trying to hint at something, the president replied, "I'll tell you about it over a short period of time. No, I didn't say that, and I didn't say the other".

Trump abruptly fired Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on May 9, admitting later that the Russian Federation probe was on his mind at the time. Jobs, trade deficits - we want them to disappear fast.

Earlier on Friday, Trump took to Twitter to declare "total and complete vindication" in response to Comey's testimony. In his Friday remarks, Trump, who is known to have recorded conversations as a businessman, did not deny their existence.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I didn't say that.

REP. MARK MEADOWS, R-N.C.: I think it was actually a day that vindicated the president, when you have Director Comey three times saying that he wasn't under investigation.
