Still no proof of collusion with Russians, says Donald Trump

During Trump's morning Twitter statements, he seemingly confirmed that he is facing an investigation in connection to his decision to fire James Comey as FBI director. "Witch Hunt", Trump said in a note on Twitter on Friday.

Trump on Thursday fired of a series of tweets describing the Russian Federation investigation as a "witch hunt" and he inquired to as to why Hillary Clinton's alleged dealings with Russian Federation were not being investigated.

The latest outburst by Mr Trump followed news that vice president Mike Pence has hired a lawyer in connection with the FBI's investigation.

A day later, Mr. Rosenstein appointed Mr. Mueller, who was at the helm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the September 11 attacks, as special counsel.

"The public interest requires me to place this investigation under a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command", Rosenstein said in his announcement last month.

Trump is under increasing pressure on the Russian Federation probe. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote his own letter, insisting that Rosenstein's hard-earned reputation as an "apolitical actor" was "now imperiled" by the deputy attorney general's role in Comey's firing.

The preservation order covers any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine, and records on former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, former foreign policy adviser Carter Page, business partner Rick Gates, informal adviser and friend Roger Stone, and Flynn, according to a memo obtained by the Times.

Speculation that President Donald Trump plans to remove the special investigator looking into Russia's meddling with the presidential election has been rampant.

Rod Rosenstein probably never expected to be in the spotlight so often while serving in President Donald Trump's administration. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday.

During an appearance in Florida on Friday, Vice President Mike Pence said his hiring of his own lawyer to help him in the Russian Federation inquiry was a "very routine" move.

Can't the White House just prevent the officials from talking? With just about a week to go before India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled arrive in Washington to meet Trump on June 26, the United States capital is awash with intrigue and suspense, with frequent parlor talk about if and when Trump will throw in the towel and the prospect of a "President Pence".

Like many Trump tweets, it can be read both ways. "Trump reverted to attacking the special counsel, railed at Hillary Clinton (!) and, frankly, seemed once again unglued", Rubin wrote in The Post's Friday editions. "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

It's unclear if the president is referring to direct knowledge that he's being investigated or reacting to media reports.
