JK Rowling and Ed Sheeran named in the Queen's Birthday Honours

A total of 1,109 people have been recognised for their achievements in the Birthday Honours list.

Donnellan and Nick Ormerod have both been awarded OBEs for services to theatre and theatre design respectively. "I'll keep working hard to grow tennis and to promote women's sport across the United Kingdom". Meanwhile, his star artist, Ed Sheeran, was made an MBE for services to music and charity.

He said: "It is an incredible honour to receive this award from our Patron, Her Majesty the Queen".

Dick Greenwood, the former England rugby union captain and coach, receives an OBE for services to national and worldwide rugby.

Most of the awards go to those who carry out community and charity work, many with young people.

Former chief electoral officer Graham Shields receives an OBE for his services to electoral democracy, while Michael Cecil will receive the same award for his services to community development on Rathlin Island.

Bethan Harding, the head of primary years at Bede Academy in Blyth, has been made an MBE for services to education. There are so many people involved in this work I feel this is for all of them.

Singer Ed Sheeran received an MBE.

"I was shocked and taken aback when I was told about it".

"The fans have always been special for me, personally every time I have played for Northern Ireland, the way they have got right behind the team is unbelievable". When I first read the letter I just could not believe it.

"I also helped with the village hall in Islip which is a fantastic thing for the community to have". "I have a huge association there and I think of it very fondly".

Other notable recipients within the entertainment industry include comedian Billy Connolly who will receive a knighthood for services to entertainment and charity. She is executive chairman of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
