French President Macron's Party Expected To Win Election

Turnout could fall to a record low, in a sign of voter fatigue after seven months of roller-coaster campaigning and voting, and of disillusionment with politics that could complicate Macron's reform drive.

Should LREM manage to secure the majority it's predicted to on Sunday, this would allow Macron to easily confirm his government, headed by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

A victory of this size would give the new French president a strong mandate for introducing a range of policies, including tax changes and labour reform.

That's also much lower than the midday turnout in the first round of parliamentary elections on June 11, which was at 19.24 percent, according to FranceInfo.

In line with the 39-year-old's presidential campaign pledges, around half of REM's candidates are newcomers to politics drawn from diverse fields of academia, business or local activism.

Macron's rivals have urged voters not to stay at home, warning power would be concentrated in the hands of one party and democratic debate stifled.

French President Emmanuel Macron is projected to sweep the board in the final round of parliamentary elections, despite a lower voter turnout.

A so-called super-majority for Macron's party will nearly certainly be well received by the markets as it will give Macron the mandate to deliver his Presidential election promises to loosen France's employment laws, overhaul its social security system and recommit to the European Union.

"We need other parties to have some weight", 54-year-old assembly line worker Veronique Franqueville, who is not a fan of Macron, said in the vehicle park of a tumble-drier factory where she works in the northern town of Amiens.

"We're throwing the baby out with the bathwater", he said as he voted in southwest Paris.

Commentators have warned that such an outcome would send shockwaves through the more established political order with their unity and even their survival at stake.

"You can not leave the prospects for the assembly as they stand - our country needs an opposition to function", National Front leader Marine Le Pen has warned.

The Socialist Party, which ruled France until last month, and its allies are projected to win 20 to 30 seats less than its current 277.

A new radical left party France Unbowed led by firebrand Jean-Luc Melenchon was forecast to win five to 15 seats along with its Communist Party allies.

But his alliance with the French Communist Party could end up giving them more seats than Le Pen's National Front - even if her party gets more votes.

The Republicans are set to form the biggest opposition group, with about 130 seats, while the Socialists could be reduced to fewer than 40 deputies, pollsters said. At that time, opinion polls will give an estimate of the outcome and official results will start trickling in.
