After Middlesbrough Victory, Arsene Wenger Demands Perfection from Ailing Arsenal Squad

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil ended Arsenal's run of four successive away defeats with a scratchy 2-1 victory over struggling Middlesbrough in their Premier League clash on Monday.

The win should boost Arsenal's confidence somewhat going into this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, and kept their hopes alive of climbing back into the Premier League's top four.

"I think in the first half we did quite well, and in the second half we still gave away some chances on crosses", added Wenger.

Wenger opted for a 3-4-3 formation at the Riverside, reportedly the first time since 1997 that the Frenchman has played with three at the back.

"Sometimes when a team lacks confidence, just to change a system can help to believe in something different".

"I felt that when we scored we had Arsenal on the back foot and at that point we just needed the ball to fall to us".

"We've been in most games and only been pipped by that extra bit of quality that you need to have".

Alexis wrote: "Happy for the effort of the team, this victory is for the gunner's family #gunners ... great moment giving this gift to this little boy #happyeaster #making a kid happy makes me happy too". "You could see we did not play with full confidence, but overall we really wanted to win", the Arsenal manager told Sky Sports.

"I felt there was nervousness there in the way we played here". We knew we would face a direct game and recently we have been punished on that. We all realise the task ahead, but equally we are six points off it, a game in hand and a terrific goal difference.

"Despite sometimes hard situations, or some situations that lack clarity, we still can perform".

Boro boss Steve Agnew was hugely frustrated to take nothing from the match, but insisted that his players showed they have a chance of surviving, despite the six-point gap between them and safety.

"I couldn't be any more proud of the players". That is what we needed and that's what we wanted.

"We've been there ourselves when you come into the training ground the day after the game and it's hard to lift yourself". "This group don't know how to give in and they will never, ever stop", he said.
